The new North Residence Hall building will provide 350 beds of new student housing to the growing Biola University Campus in La Mirada, California. The unique triangular shaped structure was developed to infill between two existing buildings while providing open space for the students.
The 62,000sf building is 4 stories of metal stud bearing wall construction. The floor structure is concrete on metal deck. A structural steel bridge at the third floor provides an opening to the interior courtyard. The bridge is supported by canted steel columns. The seismic lateral system consists of concrete shear walls at the building’s three main bathroom/utility cores.
