Saiful Bouquet provided structural engineering services for the $49M renovation and expansion of Mira Costa High School. The project scope included four new buildings, renovated academic buildings, outdoor recreation and commons, parking and infrastructure for a 44 acre campus serving approximately 2,300 students. The new buildings include a 60,000 sq. ft. Math Science Building, a General Academics (300-seat) building, and a multi-purpose building, totaling 180,000 sq. ft.
The new Math Science Building is a 3-story steel framed building clad in multi-colored cement fiberboard panels and built into the hillside to minimize massing. Special concentric braced frames were used for the building’s lateral system. Building wings are interconnected by bridges around courtyards, and topped with solar panels. The reconstruction of the campus allowed the removal of some older portable classroom buildings as well as a former administration building at the center of the campus, clearing room for a new student commons among the academic buildings.
