Saiful Bouquet provided structural engineering services for the Pasadena City College Sarafian Building Replacement. This new 104,000 gross square foot building serves as the college’s Health and Natural Science programs, featuring classroom lecture space, laboratory space, and offices. The building is a 5-story, steel-framed structure above grade.
The building’s structural system utilizes a lightweight concrete slab over a metal deck, supported by steel beams framing into steel columns. Its lateral system incorporates braced frames with Buckling Restrained Braces, located along the building’s perimeter. Certain laboratory classroom floor areas are designed to meet stringent vibration criteria. The foundation consists of shallow spread footings.

This new academic facility, the Armen Sarafian Building, marks a significant advancement in Pasadena City College’s campus modernization. It provides students with access to 17 state-of-the-art science laboratories, five flexible lecture spaces, five nursing training labs, and a radiological technology center equipped for X-ray procedures and observation. The fifth-floor labs and offices also offer panoramic views of the San Gabriel Mountains.
