Saiful Bouquet provided structural engineering design services for the Manhattan Beach Library, a 2-story, 21,000 sq. ft. building that was designed to reflect a beautiful coastal setting all the while capturing characters of Manhattan Beach. The $19M facility is cased in a glass façade providing an unobstructed panoramic view of the ocean and acts as a heat recovery system to reduce maintenance cost. Featuring state of the art technology, children’s interactive learning wall, and other interiors that add energy, movement and visual interests.
The building is a structural steel frame with concrete on metal deck at the second floor, with a small mezzanine floor between the ground and second level. The metal deck at the roof is un-topped. The lateral force resisting system is Special Steel Moment Frames which allows for an open floor plan.
The library was designed to meet LEED Gold standards.
