To meet a growing demand for medical office space, USC contracted the design team with Saiful Bouquet as the structural engineer for a new 250,000 SF outpatient center for the USC Health Sciences Campus.
The 7 story Healthcare Consultation Center II offers a range of diagnostic and treatment services including outpatient surgery, ambulatory diagnostics, imaging, internal medicine, orthopedics surgery, organ transplant, psychiatry, anesthesia / pain management program, neurology, head and neck surgery, and obstetrics. The building also includes a multi-disciplinary medical clinic for special programs and services.
The building consists of 2 subterranean levels that are of concrete construction with 5-stories of steel construction above. Originally a moment frame system was planned for the above grade 5-story steel construction. However, Saiful Bouquet was able to work closely with the architect to incorporate a steel concentric brace frames as seismic bracing for the building. This resulted in significant cost savings.
