Building knowledge from the ground up! As the structural engineers for the complex Echelon Studios project, our engineers and BIM professionals recently had an incredible opportunity for a site visit right here in Hollywood.
Understanding the scale of this project highlights why such visits are so valuable: Echelon Studios, owned and developed by Bardas Investment Group, is a 5-acre, complex vertical mixed-use production hub and creative village. It features four soundstages, a flex stage, creative bungalows, and office towers – all requiring integrated concrete, steel, and timber structural solutions. MATT Construction is serving as the General Contractor, bringing these designs to life based on the architectural vision of RIOS (Design Architect) and the executive oversight of House & Robertson Architects, Inc.
Witnessing this complexity firsthand was an invaluable chance, particularly for our younger team members, to get boots on the ground. We observed a portion of the mat foundation before a major concrete pour and got an up-close look at the intricate rebar placement for column, core wall, and basement retaining walls.
Seeing sophisticated engineering designs come to life and understanding the construction process on this scale provides crucial context that enhances our team’s design capabilities and fosters innovation.
A huge thank you to the fantastic site team at Matt Construction for generously hosting us, providing an insightful guided tour, and sharing their expertise from the field. Collaboration between the design and construction teams is vital for the success of ambitious projects like Echelon Studios, and we appreciate the partnership.
