Saiful Bouquet assisted a consortium of several architects on the renovation of a single story bowstring truss building for the new A+D (Architecture and Design) Museum in the Arts District in downtown Los Angeles. Founded by Stephen Kanner and Bernard Zimmerman in 2001, the A+D Museum exhibits focus on contemporary and innovative trends in modern architecture and design. The A+D Museum expanded to its current location on 900 East 4th Street in 2015.
Structural work included seismic bracing of the existing reinforced brick walls to the roof diaphragm, a new office mezzanine, infill of a depressed loading dock, placement of new mechanical units on the roof, design of display walls, ADA ramp, and support of translucent light boxes. An important parameter was the preservation and restoration of the existing exposed wood bowstring truss roof.
