Saiful Bouquet provided structural engineering services for the health and wellness complex located on the Oceanside Campus of MiraCosta College. The facility comprises three stand-alone structures: the Gymnasium, KHAN, and Allied Health, totaling approximately 72,250 square feet. The gymnasium features a high-volume basketball and volleyball court that meets CIF regulations, along with lower-level office spaces wrapping around its exterior elevations. The adjacent KHAN building offers office and exercise studio spaces, while the Allied Health building provides office and classroom spaces for the nursing program.
The gymnasium’s volume is achieved with built-up steel long-span trusses, while special concentric steel-braced frames (SCBF) provide lateral bracing for the contiguous structure. A steel moment frame at the gymnasium’s entry allows for unobstructed glazing. Similarly, the single-story KHAN and Allied Health structures utilize steel framing with SCBF for lateral bracing, ensuring durability and design efficiency.
