Saiful Bouquet is the structural engineer for the new one-story Industrial Arts building for Monroe High School site in North Hills, California. This new structure replaced the existing Building K, which sustained extensive damage during a fire in 2012.
The new Industrial Arts building has approximately 15,000 square feet of usable space and is laid out in five blocks with varying roof heights. The three primary high roof blocks house a wood shop, a robotics lab, and a production/instruction media center.
The roof over these spaces varies in height from approximately 18’-0” to 28’-6”, with an average height of approximately 27’-0”. The remaining two lower roof blocks will house rest rooms and mechanical/electrical/storage rooms. The structure system of the building is of steel construction. The folding roof has bare metal decking over sloping steel beams. The lateral system of the building is Eccentric Braced Frames.
