Pendry West Hollywood Hotel & Residences

Saiful Bouquet provided full structural design services for the Sunset Time, a mixed-use high-end landmark development consisting of Montage Hotel and a residential condominium located in the heart of the Sunset Strip on the corner of Sunset and Olive in West Hollywood. The project incorporates dramatic architecture with ambitious engineering moves designed to create an iconic place for locals and visitors.

The Pendry Hotel is over 100,000 sq. ft. with many unique structural challenges. The building is located on a steep hillside with 9 stories above and 4 stories below Sunset Blvd, such that the short side of the building is subject to sustained 4-story high unbalanced soil pressure. The Hotel building is partially located within the seismic fault line setback zone, or “no-build zone,” where no habitable building foundation is allowed. As a result, transfer walls with spans between 25-30 feet overhang the no-build zone to support 10 stories above. The rooftop consists of pool deck with landscape loads and Helipad.

The structure is framed with post-tensioned concrete floor slabs, and concrete shear walls resist seismic loads and unbalanced soil pressures.
