The Physical Education and Wellness Center at LA Harbor College is a new 90,000 sq.ft. center which includes a gymnasium, locker rooms, weight rooms, therapy pool and classrooms. The building is designed for LEED Certification and is intended to highlight the entrance to the campus as a signature architectural piece.
The construction of the building is comprised of concrete masonry units at the gym and select areas where they serve aesthetic and functional purposes as well as providing for the lateral bracing of the building. The gravity system is comprised of structural steel framing with bare roof deck. The gymnasium is framed with exposes steel trusses that span over one hundred feet from one side of the gymnasium to the other end.
