Saiful Bouquet was the structural engineer of record for the new Southern California Edison single-story 62,000 sq. ft. data center and 23,000 sq. ft. exterior mechanical yard. The facility is designed as an essential services building utilizing seismically certified equipment including 11 large air handling units and 4 generators serving the facility. The building encompasses the entire block and will replace the Rosemead campus facility.
The project was successfully completed using the design-build delivery method with Turner Construction and Callison. The structural system is comprised of concrete shear walls with structural steel roof framing and concrete filled metal deck above. The building also features a popped-up roof at the center of the building with clearstory all around to allow light into the space below.
The new data center will house critical operations responsible for processing SCE’s daily functions, including the management and delivery of electrical power to its customers. The mechanical yard will be used to store necessary equipment for emergency backup power generation.
